2017 Marks 27th Anniversary For No Hunger Holiday

Its hard to imagine that a simple idea to ensure that weekly recipients of a food pantry were provided with enough food for Thanksgiving has grown into what No Hunger Holiday is today, some 27 years after that initial idea.

Equally unmanageable is the fact that the effort would spread beyond the less than 100 families that were being cared for on behalf of the pantry, to nearly 3,000 families, across more than 30 social service agencies from 5 are counties in the St. Louis metro area.

As needs continue to grow, and the footprint of No Hunger Holiday expands beyond St. Charles County, event organizers are expecting the 2017 event to reach a new mark for the numbers of families served.

With recent expansions into Lincoln, Warren and Montgomery Counties in Missouri No Hunger Holiday has seen record-setting numbers on a consistent basis for a number of years now. Regardless of the economic state of the area, there are always families in need and No Hunger Holiday will always continue to reach out and serve those in need as long as agency partners are identifying those families who need help.

Of course, we wish one day to say there is no need to continue No Hunger Holiday, but the reality remains that not only is there still a need to provide Thanksgiving Day meals for families, the need seems to grow every year. No Hunger Holiday’s base with various social service agencies has also grown, and after 26 years we are proud to say that at least for one day a year, Hunger Takes a Holiday.

While we are proud to have been able to serve the needy in our area for 26 years, and our goal will continue to eradicate hunger completely, we will continue our efforts with No Hunger Holiday for another 26 years and beyond as long as the need to provide for families remains. We are blessed to be in a position to provide for others, and are even more grateful to our donors, volunteers and partners who continue to make No Hunger Holiday possible.
